Everything went according to plan in Pakruojis where ninth ranked Meresta (11-10) beat 12th ranked Perlas-MRU (9-12) 86-81 on Friday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 29-19 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Perlas-MRU was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Tomas Gaidamavicius (191-82) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and center Julius Jucikas (205-89) chipped in 18 points. Meresta's coach Dainius Bertulis used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was power forward Mantas Virbalas (203-88) with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Zydrunas Stankus (197-78, college: Campbell) scored 23 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Meresta moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Zalgiris-Sabonio and S.Marciulionio. Loser Perlas-MRU dropped to the eleventh position with 12 games lost. Meresta will face Birstono (#14) in Kaunas in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Perlas-MRU will play at home against Ezerunas-Karys in Moletai and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
