Rather predictable result when fourth ranked Gmunden Swans (9-3) defeated at home 8th ranked UBSC Graz (4-8) 106-94 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gmunden Swans. UBSC Graz managed to win second period 25-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gmunden Swans dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to UBSC Graz's 44 and made 28-of-37 free shots (75.7 percent) during the game. They outrebounded UBSC Graz 39-22 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gmunden Swans looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by UBSC Graz's players. American forward Robert Arnold (198-88, college: Boise St.) fired 19 points and 7 assists for the winners (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). Four Gmunden Swans and five UBSC Graz players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Gmunden Swans. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Kapfenberg. UBSC Graz lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. Gmunden Swans will meet Xion Dukes (#4) in the next round. UBSC Graz will play against Arkadia Lions (#11) in Traiskirchen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
