Regular Season Round 11: Botas - Mersin 69-75

An interesting game was also surprising home defeat of 4th ranked Botas in a game in Adana versus Mersin (#7) 75-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Botas. Botas was trailing by 3 points at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 21-14 charge of Mersin, which allowed them to win the game. It was an exceptional evening for American forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Her fellow American import guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) accounted for 19 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Four Mersin players scored in double figures. American forward Christi Thomas (191-82, college: Georgia) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and the former international Saynur Tozlu (189-86) added 8 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Botas in the defeat. Botas' coach Olcay Orak rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Mersin (6-5) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Canik Bld and Ceyhan Bld. Loser Botas dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Mersin will meet Canik Bld (#8) in the next round. Botas will play against Antakya in Hatay and hope to secure a win.
