Regular Season Round 12: Canik Bld - Mersin 69-87

The most interesting game of round 12 in the TKBL was a home defeat of 8th ranked Canik Bld (6-6) by seventh ranked Mersin (7-5) who outscored them by 18 points 87-69. The game without a history. Mersin led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) who added 13 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was American power forward Cheryl Ford (191-81, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Josep and Nicolas) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and Bulgarian-American point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, college: LSU, agency: LBM Management) scored 19 points. Four Mersin and five Canik Bld players scored in double figures. Mersin have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Botas. Newly promoted Canik Bld dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Mersin is looking forward to face Istanbul Universitesi (#9) in Istanbul in the next round. Canik Bld will play on the road against Antakya in Hatay and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
