Regular Season Round 13: Balcova - Sakarya 77-75

Rather predictable result when sixth ranked Balcova (6-7) edged 9th ranked Sakarya (3-10) in Izmir 77-75 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 10 points after three quarters before their 26-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Balcova forced 28 Sakarya turnovers. Strangely Sakarya outrebounded Balcova 54-40 including a 36-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for Mukaddis Aksoy (-91) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 8 rebounds. Yasemin Atali (-93) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Sevgi Esenler (-88, agency: 1x1 Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 22 rebounds and guard Gizem Unluer (172-88) added 21 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Sakarya. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Balcova moved-up to fifth place in Group C, which they share with Tekkekoy. Sakarya lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Balcova will face league's leader Cankaya in Ankara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sakarya will play on the road against Nigde Turk Telekom (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
