Regular Season Round 12: Keltern - Leimen 87-50

Bottom-ranked KuSG Leimen (0-11) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-50 loss to third ranked Gruner Stern Keltern (8-3) in Keltern on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Gruner Stern Keltern. KuSG Leimen was better in third quarter 19-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gruner Stern Keltern dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to KuSG Leimen's 22. They outrebounded KuSG Leimen 47-19 including a 28-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. Gruner Stern Keltern looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was point guard Marina Steidl (168) who scored 15 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international center Lisa Koop (197-85, college: Winthrop) chipped in 10 points and 8 rebounds. Gruner Stern Keltern's coach Thorsten Kustos felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Canadian guard Lauren Taal (175) who recorded 24 points and 4 steals and guard Jennifer Shinall (160) added 15 points respectively. Gruner Stern Keltern maintains third position in South with 8-3 record having just three points less than leader Saarlouis. Loser KuSG Leimen still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Gruner Stern Keltern will have a break next round. KuSG Leimen will play at home against Bad Aibling (#7) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
