Very expected game when 12th ranked BBC Bayreuth (8-11) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Bayern Muenchen (12-6) 84-72 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Bayern Muenchen. BBC Bayreuth managed to win third quarter 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bayern Muenchen dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to BBC Bayreuth's 32 and made 19-of-25 free shots (76.0 percent) during the game. Bayern Muenchen had a 28-17 advantage in offensive rebounds. American point guard Tyrese Rice (185-87, college: Boston Coll., agency: Priority Sports) fired 11 points and 4 assists for the winners. International Robin Benzing (209-89) chipped in 16 points. American forward Jason Cain (208-85, college: Virginia) produced 16 points (made all of his ten free throws !!!) and American-Puerto Rican guard Kevin Hamilton (193-84, college: Holy Cross) added 5 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for lost side. Four BBC Bayreuth players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Bayern Muenchen. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Ratiopharm and EWE Baskets. Loser BBC Bayreuth dropped to the fourteenth position with 11 games lost. Bayern Muenchen will meet league's second-placed ratiopharm Ulm on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. BBC Bayreuth will play against Phoenix Hagen (#9) and hope to secure a win.
