There was no surprise when 10th ranked Trier (1-11) was outleveled at home by fourth ranked BasCats Heidelberg (8-4) 73-47 on Saturday. The game without a history. BasCats Heidelberg led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. BasCats Heidelberg forced 24 Trier turnovers and outrebounded them 45-26 including a 20-2 advantage in defensive rebounds. Trier was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for American point guard Serena Benavente (167-85, college: St.Mary's, CA) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Her fellow American import guard Jillian Young (172, college: S.Dakota St.) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four BasCats Heidelberg players scored in double figures. Guard Ulrike Maerz (166) answered with 12 points and guard Sabrina Thomas (163) added 5 points and 5 assists in the effort for Trier. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for BasCats Heidelberg. They maintain fourth place in South with 8-4 record. Trier lost their sixth game in a row. They keep the tenth position with 11 games lost. BasCats Heidelberg will face league's leader TV Saarlouis Royals at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trier will play against TSV Amicitia (#5) in Viernheim.
