Regular Season Round 19: Chemnitz - Jena 85-78
Date: January 26, 2013
Rather predictable result when sixth ranked BV Chemnitz 99 (11-8) defeated at home 8th ranked Science City Jena (9-10) 85-78 on Saturday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-12. But Science City Jena won second period 25-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Science City Jena 47-24 including a 35-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Science City Jena was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for Japanese point guard Takumi Ishizaki (188-84) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points. American guard John Bynum (191-78, college: Metro St.) helped adding 13 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side forward Kevin Wysocki (198-87) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Kenny Barker (191-86, college: Alaska-Anch.) scored 16 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Science City Jena's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. BV Chemnitz 99 maintains sixth place with 11-8 record. Loser Science City Jena keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. BV Chemnitz 99 will face ETB Wohnbau (#11) in Essen in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Science City Jena will play at home against Finke Baskets in Paderborn.
