There was an upset when higher ranked Recklinghausen (7-9) lost at home to eleventh ranked BSV Wulfen (6-10) 84-79 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 25-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. BSV Wulfen made 35-of-41 free shots (85.4 percent) during the game. BSV Wulfen outrebounded Recklinghausen 35-20 including a 29-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Recklinghausen was plagued by 30 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American swingman Antonio Houston (196-88, college: Catawba) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 7 rebounds. Guard Maik Berger (175-84) contributed with 18 points and 7 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) for the winners. Five BSV Wulfen players scored in double figures. American guard Patrick Carney (185-85, college: Chapman) replied with 20 points and 5 assists and his fellow American import forward Austin Steed (203-88, college: E.Carolina) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for Recklinghausen. BSV Wulfen moved-up to eighth place in Group North, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Recklinghausen keeps the fifth position with nine games lost. BSV Wulfen will face league's second-placed SC Rist Wedel at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Recklinghausen will play against Spot Up Medien Baskets in Braunschweig.
