Regular Season Round 15: Mersin - Fenerbahce 81-75

The most surprising game was the first loss of undefeated Fenerbahce (14-1) on the court of fifth ranked Mersin on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Mersin 81-75. It ended at the same time the 14-game winning streak of Fenerbahce. The hosts trailed by 12 points after three quarters before their 27-9 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was a great evening for American guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) who led her team to a victory scoring 35 points (!!!) (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Her fellow American import forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) helped adding 18 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was international guard Birsel Vardarli (175-84) with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American guard Cappie Pondexter (175-83, college: Rutgers) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mersin (10-5) have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Tarsus Bld. Defending champion Fenerbahce still keeps top position with one game lost. Mersin is looking forward to face TED Ankara (#10) at home in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Fenerbahce will play against Antakya (#8) in Hatay and is hoping to win this game.
