There was a surprise result when eleventh ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (7-10) defeated at home higher ranked Hannover Tigers (7-10) 99-92 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 22-10 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 24-17. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel forced 23 Hannover Tigers turnovers. Hannover Tigers were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Lamonte Thomas (187, college: J.and Wales, RI, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) stepped up and scored 38 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Travis Clark (195, college: Lake Forest) chipped in 16 points and 13 rebounds. Swingman Jan-Peter Prasuhn (198-82) responded with 21 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Ashanti Cook (188-84, college: Georgetown) scored 19 points and 7 assists. Five Herzoege Wolfenbuettel and four Hannover Tigers players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Herzoege Wolfenbuettel. They moved-up to sixth place in Group North, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Hannover Tigers. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel will face higher ranked Oldenburg (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
