Regular Season Round 19: Vestel - Darussafaka 59-58

A very close game took place in Manisa between Vestel and Darussafaka. Seventh ranked Vestel (12-7) got a very close home victory over 5th ranked Darussafaka (11-8). Vestel managed to escape with a 1-point win 59-58 on Saturday evening. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 26-15. But Darussafaka won second period 18-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Vestel dominated on the defensive end, holding Darussafaka to just 7 points in third and fourth quarters. They outrebounded Darussafaka 41-28 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American forward Justin Knox (205-89, college: N.Carolina) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Kerem Ozkan (201-88, agency: EM-PA) helped adding 12 points and 9 rebounds. Knox is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Vestel players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Marcus Hall (185-85, college: Colorado) responded with 17 points and swingman Cihan Amasyali (191-83) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Vestel moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Akhisar Bld. Darussafaka lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. They share it with Trabzonspor. Vestel will meet Baskent Genclik (#14) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Darussafaka will play against Final Genclik (#11) in Bursa and hope to secure a win.
