Regular Season Round 29: Perlas-MRU - Zalgiris-Sabonio 95-65

We should mention about the upset which took place in Vilnius, where higher ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (17-12) was outleveled in a road game by eleventh ranked Perlas-MRU (13-16) 95-65. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Zalgiris-Sabonio. The game without a history. Perlas-MRU led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Zalgiris-Sabonio's 30. Perlas-MRU had a 32-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Power forward Mantas Virbalas (203-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Forward Antanas Udras (202-92) contributed with 16 points and 9 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!) for the winners. Five Perlas-MRU players scored in double figures. Forward Marius Grigonis (198-94) answered with 11 points and 5 rebounds and guard Lukas Lekavicius (180-94) added 9 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Zalgiris-Sabonio. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perlas-MRU maintains eleventh place with 13-16 record. Zalgiris-Sabonio at the other side dropped to the eighth position with 12 games lost. Perlas-MRU's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Vilnius to the arena Statyba.
