Very expected game when 12th ranked Rapid (4-15) lost to fourth ranked Sf.Gheorghe (14-5) in Sfantu Gheorghe 78-88. It looked good early as Rapid took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sf.Gheorghe had a 24-21 second period charge getting the lead and Rapid was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-88. Sf.Gheorghe dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Rapid's 28. They outrebounded Rapid 56-28 including a 43-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American swingman Jasmin Bailey (172-90, college: Ill.-Chicago) scored 36 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds (on 13-of-17 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import power forward Mekia Valentine (193-88, college: UCSB, agency: Merit Sports) chipped in 11 points and 20 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side power forward Raluca Ungureanu (180-80) responded with 20 points and 9 rebounds and the former international guard Florina Diaconu (170-82) scored 15 points and 4 assists. Four Rapid players scored in double figures. Sf.Gheorghe have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 14-5 record. Rapid lost third consecutive game. They keep the twelfth place with 15 games lost. Sf.Gheorghe will play against Craiova (#10) in Craiova in the next round where they are favorite. Rapid will play at home against Alexandria and hopes to get back on the winning track.
