Regular Season Round 18: Oldenburg - MTV Wolfenbuettel 80-59

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Herzoege Wolfenbuettel (7-11) was crushed on the road by fourth ranked Oldenburg (10-8) 80-59 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Oldenburg. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel was better in second period 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Herzoege Wolfenbuettel 41-21 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Oldenburg especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. The best player for the winners was American guard Michael Taylor (193-87, college: Whitworth) who scored 27 points and 5 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Naturalized American center Chris Heinrich (208-77, college: St.Louis) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Oldenburg's coach Mladen Drijencic felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was swingman Henje Knopke (193-85) who recorded 11 points and 6 rebounds and center Frank Theis (200-82) added 14 points respectively. Four Herzoege Wolfenbuettel players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Oldenburg maintains fourth position in Group North with 10-8 record. Loser Herzoege Wolfenbuettel dropped to the eighth place with 11 games lost. Oldenburg will face BSV Wulfen (#9) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Herzoege Wolfenbuettel will play against BSW Sixers in Sandersdorf and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
