Rather expected game when 10th ranked Meresta (15-15) lost to eighth ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (18-12) in Kaunas 79-89 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris-Sabonio. Meresta managed to win fourth quarter 23-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zalgiris-Sabonio dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Meresta's 32. They outrebounded Meresta 40-28 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Zalgiris-Sabonio made 7 blocks. Center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 15 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Marius Grigonis (198-94) supported him with 16 points and 7 rebounds. Even 22 points and 9 assists by guard Tomas Gaidamavicius (191-82) did not help to save the game for Meresta. Guard Liudas Radavicius (188-88) added 14 points. Four Meresta players scored in double figures. Meresta's coach Dainius Bertulis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Zalgiris-Sabonio maintains eighth position with 18-12 record. Loser Meresta keeps the tenth place with 15 games lost. Zalgiris-Sabonio will meet Gargzdai-Bremena (#17) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Meresta will play against Radviliskis (#14) and hope to secure a win.
