There was a small surprise when thirteenth ranked Dnipro (10-18) won against 11th ranked DniproAzot (11-18) in Dnepropetrovsk 81-77. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 32-16. But DniproAzot won second period 21-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Dnipro brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. American point guard Derrick Low (188-86, college: Washington St.) had a double-double by scoring 15 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Australian-Dutch power forward Daniel Kickert (208-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international guard Maxim Balashov (190-80, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) with 25 points and 4 assists and American guard Derrick Zimmerman (191-81, college: Mississippi St., agency: Three Eye Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points, 8 rebounds and 11 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Dnipro moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with BC Odessa. DniproAzot at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 18 games lost. Dnipro will play against higher ranked Kryvbasbasket (#10) in Krivoy Rog in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. DniproAzot will have a break next round.
