Everything went according to plan when ninth ranked Balikesir (11-9) defeated 15th ranked Pertevniyal (7-13) in Istanbul 70-63. The guests were already 12 points ahead after 3 quarters before a 17-12 Pertevniyal's run in the last quarter cut the lead to 70-63 at the end of the game. Balikesir forced 19 Pertevniyal turnovers. Strangely Pertevniyal outrebounded Balikesir 44-31 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American point guard Robert Lowery (188-87, college: Dayton) who scored 16 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Center Cem Coskun (209-87) chipped in 20 points. American forward Anthony Brown (203-86, college: Oklahoma St., agency: KMG Sports Management) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds and Tayfun Erulku (193-94) added 15 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Balikesir have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Trabzonspor and Gelisim. Pertevniyal at the other side keeps the fifteenth position with 13 games lost. Balikesir's next round opponent will be higher ranked Yesilgiresun (#4) in Giresun and it may be quite challenging game. Pertevniyal will play on the road against the league's leader Selcuk Universitesi (#1) and will have a slim chance for a victory.
