Very predictable result in Sfantu Gheorghe where fourth ranked Sf.Gheorghe (15-5) smashed 10th ranked Craiova (8-13) 70-47 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Sf.Gheorghe. Craiova was better in fourth quarter 16-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sf.Gheorghe dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Craiova's 34. Sf.Gheorghe forced 21 Craiova turnovers and outrebounded them 40-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for American power forward Mekia Valentine (193-88, college: UCSB, agency: Merit Sports) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Jence Rhoads (180-88, college: Vanderbilt) helped adding 13 points and 10 assists. Four Sf.Gheorghe players scored in double figures. Coach Csaba Deri's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Serbian center Zorica Mitov (189-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and the former international center Gabriela Toma (192-74) scored 10 points and 6 rebounds. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Sf.Gheorghe. They maintain fourth place with 15-5 record. Loser Craiova keeps the tenth position with 13 games lost. Sf.Gheorghe will face Alexandria (#6) on the road in the next round. Craiova will play against Oradea (#14) in Oradea.
