Regular Season Round 18: Turk Telekom - Karsiyaka 65-84
Date: February 16, 2013
Not a big story in a game in Ankara where 13th ranked Turk Telekom (5-13) was rolled over by fourth ranked Karsiyaka (15-3) 84-65. It looked good early as Turk Telekom took an 7-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Karsiyaka had a 24-10 second period charge getting the lead and Turk Telekom was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 65-84. Karsiyaka dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Turk Telekom's 30. They outrebounded Turk Telekom 45-25 including a 17-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for American point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: Beo Basket) who led his team to a victory with 8 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. The other American import guard Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St.) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Karsiyaka's coach Ufuk Sarica allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Croatian power forward Drago Pasalic (208-84) replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds and Slovenian power forward Miha Zupan (205-82) added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Turk Telekom. Karsiyaka have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Galatasaray. Turk Telekom at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with 13 games lost. Karsiyaka's next round opponent will be Tofas (#9) in Bursa where they are favorite. Turk Telekom will play on the road against Aliaga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
