Regular Season Round 22: Jena - Kirchheim 87-79

Very expected game when 15th ranked Kirchheim Knights (8-14) were defeated on the road by eleventh ranked Science City Jena (10-12) 87-79 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kirchheim Knights won third quarter 21-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Science City Jena forced 21 Kirchheim Knights turnovers. Kirchheim Knights were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Kenny Barker (191-86, college: Alaska-Anch.) scored 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (made all of his nine free throws !!!) to lead the charge for the winners and British-Australian guard Lee Jeka (187-83, agency: Limelight Hoops) chipped in 14 points and 6 assists during the contest. Four Science City Jena players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Justin Stommes (200-88, college: E.Kentucky) responded with 28 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import point guard Chris Alexander (186-83, college: Southern) scored 10 points. Science City Jena moved-up to ninth place, which they share with NBC and ETB Wohnbau. Loser Kirchheim Knights dropped to the fourteenth position with 14 games lost. Science City Jena will face Oettinger Rockets Gotha (#14) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Kirchheim Knights will play against ETB Wohnbau in Essen.
