Regular Season Round 17: Mainz - Hannover 71-69

Date: February 17, 2013
Rather predictable result when fifth ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz (10-7) edged at home 9th ranked Hannover (4-13) 71-69 on Sunday. However just two-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 40-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. ASC Theresianum Mainz outrebounded Hannover 39-28 including a 27-15 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Forward Cornelia Berkhoff (176-84) stepped up and scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and Czech center Gabriela Jandova (190-73) chipped in 11 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists. Four ASC Theresianum Mainz players scored in double figures. Forward Carolin Christen (174-93) responded with 24 points and 5 steals and American forward Alexa Mennen (185-87, college: N.Iowa) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). ASC Theresianum Mainz moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Goettingen and Gruenberg. Newly promoted Hannover keeps the ninth position with 13 games lost. ASC Theresianum Mainz will face Dolphins Bielefeld (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hannover will play against the league's second-placed Berlin.
