Regular Season Round 33: Dzukija - Zalgiris-Sabonio 85-71

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Dzukija (25-8) defeated 7th ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (20-13) in Alytus 85-71 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 18-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-71. Dzukija looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Forward Povilas Sakinis (199-80) nailed 28 points for the winning side and Lukas Brazdauskis (202-88) accounted for 16 points and 6 rebounds. Dzukija's coach Mindaugas Jarusevicius allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and forward Marius Grigonis (198-94) added 16 points respectively for Zalgiris-Sabonio in the defeat. Five Dzukija and four Zalgiris-Sabonio players scored in double figures. Dzukija have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. Newly promoted Dzukija maintains second place with 25-8 record behind leader Mazeikiai. Zalgiris-Sabonio at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Zanavykas and Statyba. Dzukija will meet Statyba (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Zalgiris-Sabonio will play against Olimpas in Plunge and hope to secure a win.
