Regular Season Round 34: Zalgiris-Sabonio - Olimpas 94-71

The most important game in the last round took place in Kaunas between third ranked Olimpas (23-11) and seventh ranked Zalgiris-Sabonio (21-13) on Saturday night. Olimpas was crushed by Zalgiris-Sabonio on the road 94-71. The game was mostly controlled by Zalgiris-Sabonio. Olimpas managed to win fourth quarter 22-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Olimpas 44-25 including a 31-10 advantage in defensive rebounds. Zalgiris-Sabonio shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Olimpas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Swingman Tomas Dimsa (195-94) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Justas Tamulis (194-94, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 19 points during the contest. Zalgiris-Sabonio's coach Tomas Masiulis felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side forward Audrius Maneikis (203-84, college: Motlow St. CC) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and forward Julius Kazakauskas (197-90) scored 16 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Zalgiris-Sabonio moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted Olimpas keeps the third position with 11 games lost. They share it with Suduva-Mantinga.
