Regular Season Round 21: Juventus - Lietuvos rytas 68-102

The most shocking disappointment of round 21 was a home defeat of 5th ranked Juventus (8-7) by eighth ranked Lietuvos rytas (6-2) who outscored them by 34 points 102-68. It ended the three-game winning streak of Juventus. The game was mostly controlled by Lietuvos rytas. Juventus managed to win third quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lietuvos rytas shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 57.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Lietuvos rytas made 7 blocks. Guard Dovydas Redikas (195-92) stepped up and scored 8 points and 9 assists for the winners and Latvian Janis Blums (191-82) chipped in 16 points. Four Lietuvos rytas players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was point guard Darius Gvezdauskas (191-88) with 18 points and 5 rebounds and guard Arvydas Cepulis (197-79) scored 17 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lietuvos rytas maintains eighth place with 6-2 record. Juventus at the other side keeps the fifth position with seven games lost. Lietuvos rytas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Juventus will play at home against Pieno Zvaigzdes (#4) in Pasvalys and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
