Regular Season Round 24: Pertevniyal - Vestel 63-65
Date: March 2, 2013
Not a big story in a game in Istanbul where 13th ranked Pertevniyal (9-15) was edged by eighth ranked Vestel (14-10) 65-63 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 2 points. Pertevniyal was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Justin Knox (205-89, college: N.Carolina) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and guard Serhat Ugur (192-85) who added 15 points during the contest. Knox is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The best for the losing side was American guard Dewayne Reed (185-87, college: Auburn, agency: EM-PA) with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Burak Can Yildizli (202-94) scored 16 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Vestel moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Darussafaka and Balikesir. Loser Pertevniyal dropped to the fifteenth position with 15 games lost. Vestel will face league's second-placed Yesilgiresun in Giresun in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Pertevniyal will play on the road against Final Genclik (#13) in Bursa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
