Regular Season Round 23: Canik Bld - Botas 84-75

There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Canik Bld (9-14) won against 9th ranked Botas (10-13) in Samsun 84-75 on Saturday. Canik Bld looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Cheryl Ford (191-81, college: Louisiana Tech, agency: Josep and Nicolas) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds. Bulgarian-American point guard Doneeka Hodges-Lewis (175-82, college: LSU, agency: LBM Management) accounted for 17 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side. Five Canik Bld players scored in double figures. American center Courtney Paris (191-87, college: Oklahoma) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds and American-Armenian swingman Quianna Chaney (180-86, college: LSU) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Botas in the defeat. Canik Bld moved-up to tenth place. Loser Botas dropped to the eighth position with 13 games lost. They share it with Ceyhan Bld. Canik Bld will meet higher ranked Istanbul Universitesi (#6) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Botas will play against Mersin and hope to secure a win.
