Regular Season Round 21: Mersin - Hacettepe 89-69

Rather expected game when 16th ranked Hacettepe (4-17) was smashed by thirteenth ranked Mersin (6-15) in Akdeniz 89-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Mersin. Hacettepe was better in fourth quarter 24-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mersin looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American guard J.P. Prince (201-87, college: Tennessee) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). His fellow American import guard Alex Scales (192-78, college: Oregon) contributed with 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Mersin players scored in double figures. American forward Ricardo Marsh (207-81, college: ODU) answered with 15 points and 9 rebounds and power forward Ali Isik (206-90) added 9 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Hacettepe. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Mersin moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Turk Telekom. Loser Hacettepe stay at the bottom position with 17 games lost. Mersin will face higher ranked Galatasaray (#3) in Istanbul in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Hacettepe will play at home against Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul.
