Regular Season Round 19: Levski Sofia - Beroe 91-83

There was no surprise when 6th ranked Beroe (7-12) was defeated on the road by second ranked Levski Sofia (16-3) 91-83 on Saturday. Beroe trailed by 12 points after 3 quarters before a 26-22 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 83-91 at the end of the game. Levski Sofia dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe's 26. It was a great shooting night for Levski Sofia especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a great evening for Serbian point guard Marko Marinovic (183-83) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists. International Pavel Ivanov (200-88) helped adding 17 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Five Levski Sofia players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Will Walker (183-87, college: De Paul) responded with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!) and the other American import guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) scored 20 points. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Levski Sofia. They maintain second place with 16-3 record behind leader Lukoil Academik. Newly promoted Beroe dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost. Levski Sofia will meet at home Balkan (#4) in the next round. Beroe will play against Euroins Cherno More in Varna and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
