Regular Season Round 23: Sakalai - Neptunas 66-78

There was no surprise in Vilnius where 11th ranked Sakalai (4-13) was defeated by second ranked Neptunas (13-3) 78-66. It looked good early as Sakalai took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Neptunas had a 24-12 second period charge getting the lead and Sakalai was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-78. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Valdas Vasylius (203-83, college: ODU) who led the winners and scored 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Vytautas Sarakauskas (204-82) accounted for 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Center Ignas Ramasauskas (211-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Aivaras Kiausas (199-80) added 19 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Sakalai in the defeat. Four Sakalai players scored in double figures. Neptunas have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. They used an opportunity after Rudupis lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Sakalai at the other side keeps the eleventh place with 13 games lost. Neptunas' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Naglis Palangos (#12) in Palanga which should be an easy win for them.
