A very close game took place in Bamberg between Don Bosco Bamberg and Heli Girls. Tenth ranked Don Bosco Bamberg (7-14) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Heli Girls (11-10). Don Bosco Bamberg managed to escape with a 2-point win 56-54 on Saturday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. The hosts trailed by 2 points at the halftime before their 31-27 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Don Bosco Bamberg outrebounded Heli Girls 39-25 including 26 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American center Brett Benzio (190-90, college: Tulane) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds. Her fellow American import guard Jessica Miller (173-88, college: Ill.-Chicago) chipped in 10 points. Don Bosco Bamberg's coach Steffen Dauer allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Morgan Henderson (185-88, college: San Diego) who recorded 16 points and the former international guard Dorothea Richter (176-83) added 10 points respectively. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Don Bosco Bamberg. They moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Marburg and Herner. Loser Heli Girls keep the fifth position with ten games lost. They share it with Freiburg. Don Bosco Bamberg will meet higher ranked Osnabruck (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Heli Girls will play against Oberhausen and hope to secure a win.
