Regular Season Round 21: Opladen - Hagen Phoenix 75-80

We should mention about the upset which took place in Leverkusen, where 7th ranked SG BBZ Opladen (10-11) lost at home to tenth ranked Hagen Phoenix (6-15) 75-80 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But SG BBZ Opladen won third quarter 17-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hagen Phoenix won last quarter 23-19. They also forced 19 SG BBZ Opladen turnovers. Strangely SG BBZ Opladen outrebounded Hagen Phoenix 38-26 including 25 on the offensive glass. SG BBZ Opladen was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Kimberly Pohlmann (180-92) who scored 20 points and 4 steals. Guard Franziska Goessmann (170-89) chipped in 15 points. At the other side the best for losing team was center Mareike Nettersheim (186) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and center Marie Gulich (192-94) added 22 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Hagen Phoenix moved-up to ninth place in North, which they share with Hannover. Loser SG BBZ Opladen keeps the seventh position with 11 games lost. Hagen Phoenix will have a break next round.
