BV Chemnitz 99 (14-13) survived in overtime against BG Goettingen (19-8) by four points 75-71 on Sunday night. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 20-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 12-8. BG Goettingen was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Japanese point guard Takumi Ishizaki (188-84) who scored 18 points and 7 assists. American center Donald Lawson (208-88, college: W.Michigan) chipped in 9 points and 16 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized American guard Akeem Vargas (191-90, college: Iowa Lakes CC) who recorded 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Greek-American guard Nicholas Livas (198-87, college: Ill.-Springfield) added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively. BV Chemnitz 99 will face higher ranked BG Karlsruhe (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BG Goettingen will play against Finke Baskets in Paderborn and be promoted back to the BBL just one year after relegation.
