Fourteenth-ranked Baskent Genclik (11-17) was very close to win a game against second ranked Yesilgiresun (20-8) in Giresun on Saturday. Yesilgiresun managed to secure only two-point victory 71-69. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-13. But Baskent Genclik won second period 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Yesilgiresun made 22-of-26 free shots (84.6 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Yesilgiresun made 9 blocks. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of center John Ofoegbu (206-84, college: Idaho St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 17 rebounds. Guard Alex Gordon (184-85, college: Vanderbilt) contributed with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. Guard Aubrey Reese (183-78, college: Murray St., agency: Interperformances) replied with 34 points (!!!) and forward KZell Wesson (201-77, college: La Salle) added 10 points and 21 rebounds in the effort for Baskent Genclik. Baskent Genclik's coach Ozcan Cete rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Yesilgiresun maintains second position with 20-8 record behind leader Usak. Baskent Genclik at the other side keeps the fourteenth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Final Genclik. Yesilgiresun are looking forward to face Bandirma Kir. (#10) in Balikesir in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Baskent Genclik will play at home against Akhisar Bld (#6) and is hoping to prove to their fans that this time they can win.
