Regular Season Round 23: Mersin - Antalya 87-86

A very interesting game took place in Akdeniz. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 15th ranked Antalya (5-18) to twelfth ranked Mersin (7-16) 87-86 on Saturday evening. Antalya was ahead by 5 points at the halftime before a 33-14 third quarter run of Mersin. It was an exceptional evening for American guard Alex Scales (192-78, college: Oregon) who led the winners and scored 24 points and 5 rebounds. His fellow American import guard J.P. Prince (201-87, college: Tennessee) accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Montenegrin-Serbian center Vladimir Golubovic (213-86, agency: Beo Basket) came up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 11 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and point guard Rahim Rizvanoglu (183-86) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for Antalya in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Mersin maintains twelfth place with 7-16 record, which they share with Turk Telekom. Antalya at the other side dropped to the fourteenth position with 18 games lost. Mersin's next round opponent will be higher ranked Aliaga (#10) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Antalya will play against Besiktas (#6) in Istanbul.
