Regular Season Round 53: Mykolaiv - BC Kyiv 55-51
Date: March 24, 2013
Very expected game when 14th ranked BC Kyiv (9-29) was defeated on the road by tenth ranked Mykolaiv (16-22) 55-51 on Sunday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But BC Kyiv won third quarter 10-7. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mykolaiv made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard Josh Mayo (182-87, college: Ill.-Chicago, agency: Stanislav Ryzhov) who scored 14 points and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Krys Faber (208, college: De Paul) chipped in 8 points and 8 rebounds. Power forward Maksim Sandul (207-91) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and international forward Vyacheslav Bobrov (201-92) added 10 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the guests. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Mykolaiv maintains tenth place with 16-22 record. Loser BC Kyiv stay dead last with 29 lost games. Mykolaiv will face higher ranked Kryvbasbasket (#9) in Krivoy Rog in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. BC Kyiv will play on the road against BC Donetsk (#6).
