Regular Season Round 20: Vitoria SC - Alges 74-66
Date: March 30, 2013
There was no surprise in Guimaraes where 10th ranked Alges (2-16) were defeated by sixth ranked Vitoria SC (10-8) 74-66 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 74-66. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Vitoria SC made 9 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Jose Silva (194-89) who helped to win the game recording 25 points and naturalized Cape Verdean guard Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill) who added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 blocks during the contest. American forward Jamarkus Holt (205, college: Delta St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds and international Rui Quintino (194-83) scored 9 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Alges' coach Mario Silva rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Vitoria SC moved-up to fifth place. Alges lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with 16 games lost. Vitoria SC will meet higher ranked Academica (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Alges will play against Fisica (#9) in Torres Vedras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
