Rather expected game when 6th ranked Istanbul Universitesi (15-11) was defeated on the road by third ranked Mersin (21-5) 80-66 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Mersin. Istanbul Universitesi was better in fourth quarter 21-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Istanbul Universitesi 42-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was American guard Shavonte Zellous (178-86, college: Pittsburgh) who scored 38 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). The other American import forward Erlana Larkins (185-86, college: N.Carolina) chipped in 6 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Croatian guard Sandra Mandir (177-77) produced 18 points and American power forward Ebony Hoffman (188-82, college: USC) added 12 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Istanbul Universitesi's coach rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Mersin have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Galatasaray. Loser Istanbul Universitesi keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost.
