NBL top team - Lukoil Academik (23-2) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat sixth ranked Beroe (10-15) in Stara Zagora 84-73. The game was mostly controlled by Lukoil Academik. Beroe was better in fourth quarter 26-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Lukoil Academik dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Beroe's 18. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 29 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Beroe's players. Americans were the main players on the court. Center Darryl Watkins (211-84, college: Syracuse) nailed 20 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and guard Brandon Heath (193-84, college: San Diego St.) accounted for 13 points and 6 rebounds. Lukoil Academik's coach Sasho Vezenkov allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Reginald Holmes (193-87, college: Morgan St.) came up with 27 points and 6 rebounds and center Mitchell Carter (208-100, college: Wisc.-Milwaukee) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Beroe in the defeat. Lukoil Academik have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 23-2 record. Newly promoted Beroe keeps the sixth position with 15 games lost. They share it with Cherno More and Chernomorets. Lukoil Academik will play against Balkan (#3) in Botevgrad in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Beroe will play at home against Spartak Pleven and hopes to get back on the winning track.
