Regular Season Round 3: Oberhausen - Donau-Ries 64-57

There was a minor upset when Donau-Ries (1-2) lost on the road to Oberhausen (1-2) 64-57 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 13-8. But Donau-Ries won second period 18-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was an exceptional evening for Dutch forward Sharon Beld (186-88) who led the winners and scored 21 points. The former international point guard Lea Mersch (170-87) accounted for 10 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Oberhausen's coach Katja Zberch used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Morgan Henderson (185-88, college: San Diego) came up with 15 points and 7 rebounds and the other American import point guard Vanessa House (170-88, college: W.Virginia) added 13 points and 4 assists respectively for Donau-Ries in the defeat. Oberhausen will meet TSV 1880 Wasserburg (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Donau-Ries will play against Don Bosco Bamberg and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
