Regular Season Round 6: Zalgiris II - JAZZ-KTU 72-77

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Kaunas: JAZZ-KTU (#2) and Zalgiris II (#8). Despite it looked like an easy game for JAZZ-KTU, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Zalgiris II challenged much higher ranked JAZZ-KTU giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by five points 77-72. The guests trailed by 1 point after three quarters before their 18-12 charge, which allowed them to win the game. JAZZ-KTU forced 21 Zalgiris II turnovers and outrebounded them 47-31 including a 23-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for power forward Giedrius Staniulis (205-91) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 19 rebounds. Forward Paulius Petrilevicius (201-91) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Forward Donatas Tarolis (202-94) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Justas Tamulis (194-94, agency: Beo Basket) added 19 points in the effort for Zalgiris II. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory JAZZ-KTU went down to third position due to points difference, which they share with TiuMenas-Ezer. Zalgiris II at the other side dropped to the ninth place with four games lost. JAZZ-KTU is looking forward to face Nafta Univers. (#13) in Klaipeda in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Zalgiris II will play on the road against Vilnius-MRU (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
