Regular Season Round 4: Krofdorf/Gleib. - Lichterfelde 80-74

There was a minor upset in Giessen where one of their biggest challengers Lichterfelde (2-2) was defeated by tenth ranked Krofdorf/Gleib. (2-2) 80-74 on Sunday. Lichterfelde trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 27-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 74-80 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Lichterfelde 44-31 including a 25-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Lichterfelde was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Mara Hjelle (187-89, college: Wayne St., NE) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 28 rebounds and power forward Jana Heinrich (188-86, college: San Diego St.) who added 23 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side Lena Gohlisch (173-93) responded with 17 points and 6 rebounds and Annalena Blume (179-96) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Krofdorf/Gleib. moved-up to fourth place in North, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated Lichterfelde. Krofdorf/Gleib. will face higher ranked SG BBZ Opladen (#3) in Leverkusen in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Lichterfelde will play at home against Baskets Grunberg.
