Bottom-ranked Koeln (0-4) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their fourth consecutive match to third ranked Goettingen (3-1) 61-46 on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Goettingen. Koeln was better in third quarter 11-9. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Koeln to just 5 points in first quarter. Goettingen held Koeln to an opponent 24.6 percent shooting from the field compared to 33.8 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Koeln 46-35 including 16 on the offensive glass. Goettingen looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Rickiesha Bryant (190-90, college: Tenn-Martin) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 29 points, 15 rebounds and 5 blocks and Polish forward Klaudia Grudzien (183-90) who added 11 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side point guard Paulina Koerner (175-96) responded with 10 points and 7 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) and center MaxCeal Mebane (181-82) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Goettingen have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Opladen. Newly promoted Koeln still closes the standings with four games lost. Goettingen will face Wolfpack Wolfenbuettel (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Koeln will play against Hannover and hopes to get finally their first victory.
