Date: October 26, 2013
Bottom-ranked Istanbul DSI (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 86-72 loss to eleventh ranked Pertevniyal (2-2) in Istanbul. It looked good early as Istanbul DSI took an 3-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Pertevniyal had a 30-13 second period charge getting the lead and Istanbul DSI was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-86. Pertevniyal shot 60.6 percent from the field. They outrebounded Istanbul DSI 37-24 including a 27-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Pertevniyal players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. The winners were led by American center Marvin Jefferson (206-86, college: Idaho) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 24 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and point guard Bulut Altin (188-93) supported him with 15 points and 5 assists. Altin is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Even 22 points and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws) by American point guard Damier Pitts (177-89, college: Marshall, agency: Two Points) did not help to save the game for Istanbul DSI. Center Dogan Deniz Yigit (197-89) added 18 points and 4 assists for lost side. Five Pertevniyal and four Istanbul DSI players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Pertevniyal moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 6 other teams. Newly promoted Istanbul DSI still closes the standings with four games lost. Pertevniyal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Darussafaka.
