Regular Season Round 3: Mersin - Trabzonspor 97-87

Mersin used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Trabzon 97-87 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Mersin. Trabzonspor was better in third quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mersin shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 51.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Jordan Theodore (182-89, college: Seton Hall) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import guard Gerrod Henderson (192-78, college: Louisiana Tech) contributed with 15 points and 5 assists for the winners. Five Mersin players scored in double figures. Mersin's coach Mete Babaoglu used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international guard Tutku Acik (194-80) answered with 22 points and 5 assists and New Zealand guard Kirk Penney (196-80, college: Wisconsin, agency: Duran International) added 22 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Trabzonspor. Mersin will face Usak (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trabzonspor will play against Anadolu Efes (#10) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
