Regular Season Round 4: Gelisim - I.T.U. 72-77

There was no surprise in Izmir where 16th ranked Gelism (1-3) was defeated by seventh ranked ITU Istanbul (3-1) 77-72 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-9. But Gelism won second period 20-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gelism was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Rahim Rizvanoglu (183-86) fired 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Nigerian forward Ejike Ugboaja (206-85) chipped in 22 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. American guard Martin Samarco (191-85, college: Bowling Green) produced 27 points and 5 rebounds and Canadian power forward Ryan Wright (206-87, college: Oklahoma) added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. ITU Istanbul moved-up to third place, which they share with Pamukkale and Istanbul B.B. Loser Gelism dropped to the thirteenth position with three games lost. ITU Istanbul will face league's second-placed Yesilgiresun in Giresun in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gelism will play on the road against Vestel (#10) in Manisa and hope to win that game.
