Regular Season Round 5: Balikesir - Hacettepe 83-71

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both sixth ranked Balikesir and 7th ranked Hacettepe had identical 2-2 record. This time Balikesir used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Ankara 83-71 on Saturday night. The game was mostly controlled by Balikesir. Hacettepe was better in second period 15-11. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 27-of-29 free shots (93.1 percent) during the game. Balikesir forced 21 Hacettepe turnovers and had a 17-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. Hacettepe was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American point guard D.J. Thompson (173-85, college: Appalachian St., agency: Hart Sports Mngm) who scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. His fellow American import forward Juan Pattillo (201-88, college: W.Kentucky) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Balikesir's coach used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Osman Orcun Gollu (190-77) produced 15 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists and power forward Nezih Ozbakir (206-80) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Hacettepe players scored in double figures. Balikesir (3-2) moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Loser Hacettepe dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. Balikesir will face Antalya (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hacettepe will play against ITU Istanbul and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the TBL just one year after relegation.
