Regular Season Round 5: Canik Bld - Istanbul Univ. 66-86

There was no surprise in Samsun where 10th ranked Canik Bld (1-4) was crushed by third ranked Istanbul Universitesi (4-1) 86-66 on Sunday. The game without a history. Istanbul Universitesi led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. It was a great shooting night for Istanbul Universitesi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was Romanian forward Gabriela Marginean (182-87, college: Drexel) who scored 21 points. Russian center Irina Osipova (196-81) chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Istanbul Universitesi players scored in double figures. American forward Lauren Ervin (191-85, college: Arkansas, agency: Two Points) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and American-Armenian swingman Quianna Chaney (180-86, college: LSU) added 9 points and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Istanbul Universitesi maintains third place with 4-1 record behind leader Galatasaray. Loser Canik Bld dropped to the eleventh position with four games lost. Istanbul Universitesi will face league's leader Galatasaray in Istanbul in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Canik Bld will play on the road against Fenerbahce (#7) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.
