Regular Season Round 5: Aistes-LSU - Fortuna 61-78

Very significant was Fortuna's (#5) 17-point road victory against 4th placed Aistes-LSU 78-61. It looked good early as Aistes-LSU took an 5-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Fortuna had a 18-9 second period charge getting the lead and Aistes-LSU was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 61-78. Fortuna dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Aistes-LSU's 30. Fortuna forced 20 Aistes-LSU turnovers and outrebounded them 39-28 including 25 on the defensive glass. The former international swingman Lina Aglinskaite (182-87) nailed 19 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side and international Monika Grigalauskyte (190-92) accounted for 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Fortuna's coach Ramune Kumpiene allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International power forward Laura Svaryte (190-92) came up with 9 points and 10 rebounds and forward Neringa Skadaite (179-92) added 16 points respectively for Aistes-LSU in the defeat. Fortuna (3-2) moved-up to third place, which they share with Suduva. Aistes-LSU lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Jaunieji Talentai. Fortuna will play against bottom-ranked Ruta-Univ. (#8) in Siauliai in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Aistes-LSU will play on the road against Suduva in Marijampole and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
